Nights Away Training is changing - 15-07-2010

With effect from 31 October 2010, the current Module 16, Nights Away will be discontinued.

In it's place, will come Module 16 - Introduction to Residential Experiences and Module 38 - Skills for Residential Experiences.

Here, Ann Gordon our ARC (Adult Training) tells us a bit about the new modules.

Introduction to Residential Experiences will be available from 1 November 2010. This will be a short module lasting about 2 hours 30 minutes which will be a compulsory module for completion, in order for a wood badge to be gained.

The module will introduce Leaders to an introduction to the place, venue and organisation of a residential experience and their place in Scouting as well as basic information on the Nights Away Permit scheme.

This module will be included in a 2 weekend sectional training course planned by Clyde Region to run in November 2010 and March 2011. However, for this year in order to catch up with anyone who has not currently completed Module 16 we will also be running 2 opportunities to complete the learning for Module 16 in November 2010 and February 2011.

Module 38, Skills for Residential Experiences will be a weekend training course run as a practical camping weekend. The module will reflect the skills needed for a Nights Away Permit and is a specialist module which will not be mandatory for any section leader's wood badges. The module is highly recommended for any leader who does not have a nights away permit but who may wish to work towards applying for one. Module 38 will cover Beaver, Cub, Scout and Explorer Scout sections nights away opportunities.

Clyde region will be running its first Module 38 in May 2011.
